Biochemist Michael Morbius suffers from a rare and potentially fatal blood disease. Attempting to cure himself through an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshock, he instead transforms into a living vampire with a need for blood and superhuman abilities. Unlike a supernatural vampire, Morbius is the product of science gone wrong and repeatedly searches for a cure.
