Howard the Duck is best approached as a screen interpretation of the character’s foundations rather than a panel-for-panel adaptation. Start with Howard the Duck #1–3 (1976), then compare it with Adventure into Fear #19 and Howard the Duck magazine #1. Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
Connection: Character/origin; largely original plot
