The Marvels combines ideas from more than one period of the comics, so its source material is better read as a group than as one direct adaptation. Start with Ms. Marvel #1 (1977), then compare it with Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 and Captain Marvel #14–17 (2013). The additional references below broaden that trail into the characters, continuity and ideas surrounding the film.
