Fantastic Four is best approached as a screen interpretation of the character’s foundations rather than a panel-for-panel adaptation. Start with Ultimate Fantastic Four #1–6, then compare it with Fantastic Four #1 and Ultimate Fantastic Four #21–23. Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
