Description
Marvel Graphic Novel #5: X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills, published by Marvel Comics in 1982. Written by Chris Claremont with artwork and a painted cover by Brent Eric Anderson, this landmark graphic novel is regarded as one of the defining X-Men stories of the era.
Reverend William Stryker leads a fanatical anti-mutant crusade, kidnapping Professor Xavier and attempting to use his powers against mutantkind. Facing an enemy driven by hatred rather than conventional super-villainy, the X-Men are forced into an uneasy alliance with Magneto to stop Stryker and his Purifiers.
Key Significance: First appearance of Reverend William Stryker, who became one of the X-Men’s most recognisable human adversaries. The story is particularly significant for its exploration of prejudice, persecution and anti-mutant extremism and later provided major inspiration for X2: X-Men United. This is also the first X-Men graphic novel in Marvel’s original Graphic Novel line.
