Nathan Summers is the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, born into the X-Men's complicated mutant world and infected as an infant with a techno-organic virus. Sent into the future so he can survive, Nathan grows into the battle-hardened soldier Cable and later returns to the present, where his knowledge of future catastrophes drives his attempts to prepare and protect mutantkind.
