Punisher: War Zone combines ideas from more than one period of the comics, so its source material is better read as a group than as one direct adaptation. Start with The Amazing Spider-Man #129, then compare it with Punisher #1–5 (2000) and Punisher MAX #1–12. Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
Connection: MAX-era tone; character synthesis
