Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is best approached as a screen interpretation of the character’s foundations rather than a panel-for-panel adaptation. Start with Special Marvel Edition #15–16, then compare it with Master of Kung Fu #17–19 and Secret Avengers #6–10. Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
