The comic background to Venom comes from several pieces of source material rather than a single issue reproduced on screen. Start with The Amazing Spider-Man #300, then compare it with Venom: Lethal Protector #1–6 and Planet of the Symbiotes #1–5. Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
