X2: X-Men United draws together recognisable comic-story material and reshapes it for a self-contained feature-film narrative. Start with Marvel Graphic Novel #5: God Loves, Man Kills, then compare it with Uncanny X-Men #161 and Weapon X (Marvel Comics Presents #72–84). Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
