The comic background to The Suicide Squad comes from several pieces of source material rather than a single issue reproduced on screen. Start with The Brave and the Bold #25, then compare it with Suicide Squad #1–8 (1987) and JLA #22–23 (Starro). Reading the references alongside the movie makes it easier to see what the filmmakers retained, combined or reinvented for the screen.
